A Backyard Retreat for Grandparents
Instead of a traditional Austin home addition, we created a unique in-law suite for a family who wanted to bring their grandparents closer, without compromising anyone’s comfort or independence.
We recently completed this elevated in-law suite, built high on concrete piers in the backyard. This approach created a peaceful retreat that feels both connected to the main home and distinctly its own.
Beneath the elevated structure, we created a cozy sitting patio, a quiet spot for morning coffee or simply enjoying the backyard view.
Inside, the suite is bright, airy, and welcoming. Vaulted ceilings and large windows bring in plenty of natural light, while warm wood floors and classic finishes give it a timeless, homey feel.
One highlight is the bathroom: a wet room that combines a walk-in shower and a soaking tub, offering both comfort and practicality.
This was more than just a remodel or a home addition. It was a thoughtful, intentional space designed to support multi-generational living, giving grandparents a place of their own while keeping them close to the family they love.
